The earliest man made marks date to PREHISTORIC times.
-The earliest European cave paintings date to Aurignacian people, (which is a culture of the Upper Paleolithic located in Europe and southwest Asia some 32,000 years ago.

The hand was the signifying feature that authentically attributed a person to a place or event.
Project: using this historical information students to considered their own marks left by their hands. Create an image by lightly tracing their hand onto paper,
Students then used one set of marks (circles, squares, ticks ) on the outside to reveal the form of the hand on the page.
This exercise was an exploration of self identity within a larger historical context.
The following examples are students from MC O'Neill high school in Regina, Saskatchewan.
