I think I'm turning Japanese....
Mick-Inuyasha
Time: 8:12am
Its just another day....Through bleary eyes, and between the din of coffee and burnt toast..... all the sipping and scraping...... you notice something out of the corner of your eye...........there on the T.V...... something is different.... Its Mickey and all of his buddies alright, but that's not the clubhouse.......its Tokyo Tower.....
Mickey turns to you giggling like a maniac and shrieks......Banzai!.....beams of light pulsate all over the screen
......it has begun.............. the crossover
This project looks at mashing-up two popular genres in the cartoon universe, namely the penultimate Disney characters(Mickey, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh etc.) and the Japanese Manga inspired characters (Inuyasha, Pokemon)Sailor Moon,.
Astro Mickey?
This idea was inspired by a quote by the Great Hayao Miyazaki (the original designer of Astro Boy) who admits to basing alot of his work upon Walt Disney's most famous mouse. This takes that idea one step further and challenges fans of both genres to create something new by combining the two schools of thought. What attribute or characteristics do you keep, leave off. What is the perfect hybrid of these two popular cartoon genres?
Match up and Mash up!
Below are some examples to get you going in your creation. To download the samples just right click and save to your desktop, after that print them off and use them as a starting point. Begin by breaking down the bigger shapes and adding the details after, the tendency with drawing cartoons, that you are familiar with, is to focus upon the details (eyes, mouth, nose, hair) and forget to spend the time on the proportions. By spending the time at the beginning and mapping out the posture and determining the axis lines (vertical and horizontal guidlines) you build a better foundation to hang all the other parts upon.
Adaptive tactics
If you are having a challenge getting started, Try holding your page (sketchbook might be tricky) and the reference page up to a window (during daylight hours) and trace out parts of each, ....hey at least its a start, you still have to finish it.
